Community Outreach

New Haven Open at Yale provides community outreach year round at the grassroots level and during tournament week in August. The tournament's strategy has always been to leverage the excitement and power of professional tennis to build interest and participation at the community level. The tournament, along with its 501(c)3 New Haven Youth Tennis & Education, partners with New Haven Parks & Rec and the USTA year-round to provide tennis lessons, life skills and leadership development programming. Below is a partial list of programs and events, all of which teach the importance of fitness, education, and making healthy choices in their lives.

New Haven Open at Yale Community Programs & Events

First Niagara Family Classic

January through August

In addition, the tournament hosts the First Niagara Family Classic, a parent/child competition that encourages a healthy, active lifestyle for families with nearly 100 tennis events throughout seven states in New England and New York, culminating at the New Haven Open in August.

Aetna Kids Day

Tournament Week

Aetna Kids Day is a fun-filled day of music, games, giveaways, autograph sessions, court games, clinics and appearances by tennis pros. The first 1,000 kids through the gate receive a fun goody bag.
