On May 4, 2011, Governor Malloy signed the FY 2012 budget bill into law. The budget bill (Senate Bill 1239) included several significant tax changes resulting in increased revenue for the State of Connecticut. One such change is the elimination of the admission tax exemption for events held at the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale (a Tennis Foundation of Connecticut facility) as well as several other events that were previously exempt from admission charge that are staged at other publicly and privately owned facilities (§105). The State of Connecticut imposes an admission charge of 10% admission tax to any place of amusement, entertainment, or recreation. For a comprehnsive list of venues, See Conn. Gen. Stat.§ 12-540(3). As of January 1, 2012, all tickets sold to events held at the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale, including the New Haven Open at Yale, are subject to 10% admission tax.
